Webinar: Roof truss engineering

This webinar is for light gauge steel detailers wanting to learn how to engineer roof trusses in Vertex BD. Vertex BD truss engineering is capable of designing roof and floor trusses to Australian, Chinese and Euro codes using any lipped C profile.

We will go through the entire engineering process including:

  • What is required to be done in the building model before engineering begins, including adding truss to truss connections, panel connections and beam supports

  • Adding wind loads to the roof and ceiling.

  • Defining dead loads and member restraint settings

  • Using single truss engineering, including:

    • adding and removing webs.

    • boxing members.

    • adding side reinforcements.

    • Looking at the engineering data. Failure modes etc.

  • Adding the truss reaction schedule

  • Producing engineering drawings and results for each truss.

The webinar is hosted by David Coggan and Jukka Haho. Please register for the webinar from the link below.

Tuesday August 19th, 8:00 (UTC+3) / 15:00 (UTC +10)

Webinar: Floor truss engineering

This webinar is tailored for steel frame detailers and engineers working in the light gauge steel (LGS) construction industry. Floor trusses are one of the most widely used floor systems in LGS projects due to their versatility and efficiency. They can be manufactured using the same roll forming equipment used for wall frames, making them a cost-effective and practical solution for many builders.

With Vertex BD’s integrated truss engineering capabilities, detailers can easily verify whether their floor truss designs meet structural requirements—giving them greater confidence when submitting models for engineering review.

In this session, we’ll walk through the entire floor truss engineering process in Vertex BD. You’ll learn how to:

  • Apply different types of loads, including area loads and line loads.

  • Configure various support and connection options for floor trusses.

  • Explore common methods to strengthen a floor truss when it does not pass engineering.

  • Generate and export detailed engineering reports.

We’ll also address some of the most common questions and challenges encountered during floor truss engineering, helping you streamline your workflow and improve design accuracy.

The webinar is hosted by Yao Xi and Jukka Haho. Please register for the webinar from the link below.

Tuesday September 9th, 8:00 (UTC+3) / 15:00 (UTC +10)

Webinar: Bracing design in Vertex BD

This webinar will help steel frame detailers working within the light gauge steel industry, apply correct capacities to a brace based on the height and width of the brace.

Bracing is a requirement for all building designs and using Vertex BD bracing design will help achieve the capacity values required.

During this session you will learn how:

  • To activate the K, Z and strap braces along with the required parameters to use the height and width for brace design.

  • Show the required capacity tables. Capacities are given by client’s engineer not by Vertex.

  • How inserting the brace is effected by the height and width, which will affect to used capacity.

  • Creating a bracing schedule which will include the overall bracing capacity achieved.

The webinar is hosted by Paul Cherwin and Jukka Haho. Please register for the webinar from the link below.
