Project Overview

BIM services for Light Gauge Steel Framing (LGSF) continues to transform modern construction with its precision, efficiency, and adaptability. However, certain architectural features can present unique engineering and detailing challenges for single storey commercial building using cold formed steel in India. One such challenge was encountered in our project, where complex geometry and LGSF cantilever structure elements required careful planning and advanced detailing techniques.

  • Project Type: Commercial Building
  • Total Area: 5,220 sq. ft.
  • Storeys: 1-Storey Structure
  • Roof Type: Mono Roof
  • Software Used: Vertex BD
  • Machine Used: Pinnacle

Scope of Work

Our team handled the complete engineering and detailing workflow for this mono roof steel structure project, which included:

  • Engineering
  • 3D Modeling
  • Detailing
  • Shop Drawings
  • CNC Production Files

Using Vertex BD, we ensured accurate modeling and detailing, allowing seamless integration with the Pinnacle machine for manufacturing-ready production files.

The Key Challenge: Cantilever with Pure LGSF Hanging Walls

One of the most technically demanding aspects of this project was the cantilever portion, which featured pure LGSF hanging walls. Unlike conventional wall-supported systems, these hanging walls required precise load transfer and structural coordination.

The architectural design introduced different geometrical configurations, which significantly increased the complexity of the detailing process. Ensuring structural stability while maintaining design intent required a highly detailed and coordinated approach.

Engineering and Detailing Approach

To address this challenge, our engineering and detailing teams adopted a systematic approach:

  • Careful load path analysis for the cantilevered structure
  • Accurate 3D modeling in Vertex BD to visualize complex geometry
  • Precise member placement and connection detailing
  • Coordinated detailing to ensure manufacturability with the Pinnacle machine
  • Generation of error-free shop drawings and CNC production files

This workflow ensured that even the most complex sections were detailed with clarity and precision.

Delivering Precision Through Technology

Advanced software like Vertex BD detailing played a crucial role in handling the project’s complexity. Its intelligent modeling and detailing capabilities allowed us to manage irregular geometry while maintaining structural integrity and fabrication accuracy.

The integration with the Pinnacle machine further streamlined the process, ensuring that the detailing translated directly into production-ready components.

Conclusion

Projects involving cantilevered structures and complex geometries require a combination of engineering expertise, advanced software tools, and precise detailing. By leveraging the capabilities of Vertex BD and maintaining a meticulous engineering approach, our team successfully delivered a detailed and production-ready solution for this commercial building project.
